Join Scouting!

Interested in joining Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts or Venturing? Eligible youth can join anytime, but right now is the best time! All Scouting units in Durham County are accepting new members now. All the details you need are right here!

You can also get contact information for the Scouting unit you're interested in from the "List" links on the right, or you can use the "Maps" links on the right to find a unit near you.

If you're not sure which program or which unit is best, you can request more information and a Scouting representative will help you get started in Scouting.

And if want to attend a presentation on Cub Scouting, check here for presentations scheduled for August and September by local units. Information to be posted soon.

Call For District Volunteers - We have a lot of important work on our plate at the District level and we need your help . . . either in serving District Committees or serving as Unit Commissioners. The scope of our needs is varied . . . we have seasonal needs (like Friends of Scouting), we have openings for Unit Commissioners (regular unit contact, serving closer to the Scouts), and we have work that can be managed at monthly District meetings. Among the current positions open in the District we have:

  • District Committee Members at large

Please contact Richard Jacobs (919-477-1153, rjacobs@hotmail.com) to volunteer or help us locate people for this important work.

Our District meetings are on the 4th Monday of each month at the Lions Club located at 1850 Hillandale Road. Check this site for the next meeting date. Your district can only be as good as the work we are willing to commit to it!

The Scout Sign - The latest Occoneechee Council newsletter is now available online. Check it out for Council-wide news. The Scout Sign is much improved since being published electronically. Information is current, correct and usable to District and Unit Scouters. It is often a better source of Council information than the Council web site.

Unit leaders and District Committee members should get an email notification of new editions of the newsletter. Others can be put on the list by providing email addresses online.

Mawat District Email - Join the Mawat email group and receive timely emails about upcoming events in Mawat District. All you have to do is send an email.

Update Request - To request and update to this website. Send us an email.
