Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) Training PDF Print E-mail

Camping MB PatchIOLS (Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills) is designed to train all adult leaders in the practical outdoor skills needed to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors.  The skill sessions presented closely follow the Tenderfoot to First Class outdoor camping skills found in the Boy Scout Handbook. Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Along with Scoutmaster Specifics, this course is required of all Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters, in order to be considered "trained".  It is also recommended for all Venturing Crew Advisors and Associate Advisors.

Course details:
Pre-Camp Meeting: Attendance is required as your training begins here.  There are a number of pre-camp items to be covered, including equipment lists and campsite directions.
Date and Time:    September 11, 2014 at 7:00pm
Where:     St. Paul’s Lutheran Church 1200 W Cornwallis, Durham, NC

Outdoor Program:
Date and Time:    September 19; 20; and 21 2014
Where:        Spruce Pine Lodge Campgrounds in Bahama, NC
Cost:            $50 (This includes your food)

Registration Deadline: September, 10, 2014.  No additional applicants will be accepted after this date.

Minimum class size for this IOLS course is 6 participants and the Maximum is 16.

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientatation (BALOO) Training PDF Print E-mail

 Baloo logoThis one day course is designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for those leaders who are interested in adding a camping component to their Pack activities. BSA's Cub Scout level camping policies will be taught along with the necessary tools to help units carry out a successful camping experience. Completion of this course is mandatory for at least one adult on a Pack overnighter.

2014 Wood Badge Course PDF Print E-mail

Adult leaders, please join us for Wood Badge. Wood Badge is Scouting's premier adult leader training course and it is for Scouters involved in any aspect of the program (Packs, Troops, Crews, Districts, etc.). The council will be offering a second course this year and it will be split over two long weekends in the fall. 2014 Camp Cards PDF Print E-mail

The Occoneechee Council, Mawat District 2014 Camp Card sale is kicking off and your Scouts can earn their way to a great Summer Camp experience. Camp Cards are completely Risk Free and can earn your Scouts a 50% Commission on their total sales.  The intent of the Camp Card sale is to allow Units to raise funds to pay for their Scouting Program.  This includes purchasing camping equipment such as tents, backpacks, and sleeping bags, and to send Scouts to Cub Scout Day Camp.  The District will receive 50% of the sale.  Each card costs $5.00.

This is a no-risk sale. The units do not have to buy the cards in advance; they tell how many they would like to sell and we issue them to the unit. To settle the unit account, they turn in $2.50 for every card sold and turn in any unsold cards that are in like new condition.  Units can get more cards provided that they 1) Settle their account for initial card issued. 2) That we have additional card to distribute to them.

Scouts deserve the best possible experience in Scouting. The District Committee provides support to all Scouting Units and is essential to the success of the individual programs! 

District Volunteers - We have a lot of important work on our plate at the District level and we need your help . . . either in serving District Committees or serving as Unit Commissioners. The scope of our needs is varied . . . we have seasonal needs (like Friends of Scouting), we have openings for Unit Commissioners (regular unit contact, serving closer to the Scouts), and we have work that can be managed at monthly District meetings.
